Leading Hand
Savage Air is looking for an experienced Leading Hand to join our Pakenham-based heating and cooling install team.
This role suits someone who takes pride in clean, organised installation work, communicates well with the office and clients, and can help guide apprentices and team members on site. You will be working across domestic heating and cooling installs, including ducted reverse cycle systems, split systems, multi-head splits, bulkhead splits, VRV systems, gas ducted heaters and evaporative cooling systems.
About The Role
As a Leading Hand, you will be responsible for delivering quality installs across new and existing homes while upholding the Savage Air standard on every job.
That means arriving on time, keeping the job moving, communicating clearly, completing the right job notes and checklists, and leaving the site clean when the work is done. You will also help train apprentices, maintain your van and stock levels, and work closely with the office when problem-solving is required on site.
This is a full-time role based from our Pakenham factory.
What You Will Be Doing
- Installing ducted reverse cycle systems, high wall split systems, multi-head split systems, bulkhead split systems, VRV systems, gas ducted heaters and evaporative coolers
- Completing installs to manufacturer standards, Australian standards, good practice standards and Savage Air standards
- Taking pride in the quality, finish and cleanliness of every job
- Problem-solving on site and communicating solutions or suggestions with the office
- Maintaining clear communication between the office, clients and team members
- Arriving on time to site or the factory
- Leaving each job site clean, including vacuuming, wiping controllers and securing gates and doors
- Completing Aroflo notes, photos, checklists and sub-status updates while on site
- Recording any site damage in Aroflo
- Avoiding damage, rework and unnecessary return jobs
- Bringing recycled units back to the factory with the correct job number
- Maintaining van stock levels as per the van list
- Keeping your van clean and ready for toolbox checks
- Upholding Savage Air values at all times
- Training apprentices in installation steps and Aroflo use
- Submitting weekly timesheets by Thursday 7:00am
- Submitting leave requests through the correct process
- Checking van fluids regularly, including oil, water and wiper fluid
- Notifying office admin before vehicle servicing is due
- Completing other reasonable duties as directed by the Operations Manager or Director
Factory And Van Responsibilities
The Leading Hand role includes responsibility for keeping the van, stock and factory areas organised.
At the end of jobs, you may be required to load up for the next day, usually around 3:00pm where the schedule allows. This includes emptying rubbish from the van, keeping the bin area clean, restocking the van as per the approved list and helping keep the factory tidy where required.
You will have full access to a company van, fuel card and toll card as part of the role. This is a privilege and comes with the expectation that the van is kept clean, stocked and looked after.
Employees are required to supply their own tools as per the provided tool list.
Clock In And Clock Off
Clock in applies from site, factory, or within 50km of the factory, whichever comes first.

Training And Development
Savage Air supports ongoing training where required. This may include manufacturer training, as well as additional training where either the employee or employer identifies an area for improvement or a new skill requirement.
Required Qualifications
- Certificate III in Plumbing as a registered mechanical plumber, or qualification as a refrigeration mechanic
- ARCTick licence for split systems
- White Card
- Working With Children Check
- Experience installing domestic heating and cooling systems
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to lead apprentices and support the team on site
- Pride in workmanship and site presentation
