Add On Cooling Installation Melbourne

Add-on cooling is exactly what it sounds like. Your home has ducted heating already, the ducts work, the heater is still in good condition, and you want cooling added through the same ducts. We install a cooling unit that runs through the existing ductwork.

It is the right call when the existing heater has years of life left and you do not want to pay for a full system replacement just to get cooling. It is not the right call when the heater is old, the ducts are tired, or the heating side will need replacing soon anyway. In those cases reverse cycle electric ducted is usually the better long-term answer because it does both seasons from one install.

Savage Air installs add-on cooling across Melbourne’s south east. We will give you an honest read on whether add-on cooling or a full reverse cycle changeover is the better fit for your home before we quote.

When Add On Cooling Is The Right Call

Add-on cooling fits a specific situation. When it fits, it is the smarter spend. When it does not, we will tell you.
Your existing ducted heater has plenty of life left, the ducts are in good condition, and the heating side is working as it should. Adding cooling to that setup is cheaper than replacing the whole system.
The cooling runs through the existing ductwork, so you get summer comfort from the same vents as winter heating. One set of ducts, two systems.

Cooling Through Your Existing Ducts

The cooling unit is sized to the ductwork you already have and the rooms it needs to reach. We inspect the existing system first. If the ducts cannot carry the cooling load properly we will say so rather than installing a system that struggles.

The install ties the cooling into the existing ductwork, with the new outdoor unit positioned so it runs quietly and serviceably. Same return air, same vents, two systems sharing one set of ducts.

Sized properly, installed properly, backed for the life of the workmanship.

Add On Cooling Versus Full Reverse Cycle

The honest comparison most homeowners need:

Add-on cooling makes sense when the existing gas ducted heater is in good condition with years of life left, the ducts are sound, and you only need cooling added. Cheaper up front, leaves the heating side untouched.

Full reverse cycle electric ducted makes sense when the heater is old or near end of life, the ducts need work, or you are considering retiring gas anyway. One system handles both seasons. If your home qualifies the VEU rebate brings the upfront cost down. Where the job qualifies, we will let you know up front and walk you through the path.

We will not push you toward a full changeover when add-on cooling is genuinely the better fit. We will not push you toward add-on cooling when the heater is on borrowed time. Honest call, both ways.

Who We Work With

Most add-on cooling jobs fall into one of two situations:

Newer gas ducted heater with no cooling. Heater is recent, working well, no built-in cooling option. Add-on cooling is the simplest path.

Older ducted heating with sound ducts. Heater is older but still in good condition, ducts are in good shape, and you want cooling without the spend of a full system replacement.

Either way, you get the same install standard and the same lifetime workmanship guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will add-on cooling work with any ducted heater?
Most of the time, but not always. The existing ductwork needs to be sound and sized so it can carry the cooling load. If the ducts are tired or undersized, the cooling system will struggle even when the unit itself is rated correctly. We inspect the existing system before we quote and we will be upfront about what works and what does not. If the home is better served by a full reverse cycle changeover we will say so.
Up front, usually yes, because you keep the existing heater and ductwork instead of replacing everything. Over time the comparison depends on how long the heater has left. If the heater fails a few years after the add-on cooling goes in, you pay twice. If the heater has a solid run ahead of it, the add-on is the cheaper path. We will give you the honest read for your home, not the upsell.
