A Real Rebate, Without The Runaround
The Victorian Energy Upgrades program is a Victorian Government scheme that gives households a discount on energy-saving upgrades to the home. For heating and cooling, that means money off when you replace an old gas heater with electric, when you swap an old split system for a high-efficiency unit, or when you upgrade your ducted heating. The discount is real, the catch is just that it takes a bit of guiding to get over the line.
That is where we come in. We sit down with you at the site visit, work out what your job is eligible for, and put a quote in front of you with the rebate already calculated against the gross price. No chasing forms in the evening, no working out which accredited provider does what, no waiting for a refund that may or may not arrive. One team, one quote, one acceptance link for you to click when it lands in your inbox. We walk you through that step too.
Reliable heating and cooling systems suited to Melbourne homes, with strong performance across ducted & split system installs.
Stress Off Your Plate, Onto Ours
Most households we quote have heard of the VEU rebate but are not sure where to actually start. That is the most common phone call we take on the rebate side, and the answer is always the same. You let us know what you are looking at replacing, we come out and assess the home, and from there the rebate paperwork is on us. The system spec, the recycling certificate for the old unit, the scheme lodgement through our accredited VEU provider, and the compliance certificates after the install are all looked after on our side.
The only step that sits with you is clicking the acceptance link when it lands in your inbox, and we talk you through that on the day. By the time the install is finished and the team has packed up, the rebate value is already sitting on your invoice as a reduction against the full price. The quote you signed is the price you pay. No surprises, no waiting on a refund, no sitting on hold to an energy retailer.
Pick The Job That Matches Your Home
A Quick Look At What Makes A Job Eligible
Most rebate-qualifying jobs share a similar shape. You are a Victorian homeowner (or a landlord upgrading a tenanted property), you are replacing an existing heating or cooling system rather than installing one in a new build, and the system you are replacing is gas or is an older less efficient electric system. The new system needs to meet VEU efficiency requirements, which is the reason we only quote systems that do. The home also needs to have the electrical capacity for the new install, and where the existing switchboard needs an upgrade to support the job, that is part of the scope we cover rather than a separate trade you have to organise.
The cleanest way to confirm is the site visit. We come out, take a look at what is in the home today, and let you know where the job sits on the eligibility side before you have committed to anything. From there, the rebate is either built into the quote, or we explain where the gap is and you decide how you want to proceed.
The Systems That Qualify
If your home already runs on evaporative and the unit is past its useful life, the replacement can sit inside the VEU scheme when the new system meets the efficiency rating. Breezair is the brand we install most often here, and the upgrade typically lifts running efficiency without changing how the home is cooled day to day. Worth knowing if your last unit lasted a decade and you would rather not switch system types. We hold ARC licence AU52122, which means every job leaves with the refrigerant handling done properly, the install signed off, and the paperwork tidy. The lifetime workmanship guarantee on our labour comes standard on every VEU job we do.
How the Rebate Actually Gets Applied
This is the part most homeowners find confusing, so we will be straight with you. Savage Air is not the body that issues the VEU rebate. We partner with an accredited provider who handles the scheme-side paperwork, and we handle the install and the quote. From your side, the process feels like one job with one point of contact, but behind the scenes the rebate is processed through the accredited provider so you are not chasing a government office to claim it.
Here is the shape of it from the day you reach out:
You book the free quote. We come to the home, look at the existing system, and confirm whether the job fits the VEU scheme on the spot.
We send the quote with the rebate built in. The number you see is the price after the rebate has been applied. No surprise top-ups at the end.
The accredited provider handles the scheme paperwork. Proof of address, system details, and the eligibility confirmation go through their process. We pass on what they need from your side so you are not filling forms blind.
We install the system. Most jobs are done in a day. Where ductwork or a switchboard upgrade is part of the scope, we sequence it so the home is back up and running the same day where we can.
The job is signed off. Final paperwork through the provider, ARC compliance documented on our end, and the workmanship guarantee active from the day we leave.
If something on the eligibility side does not stack up at the site visit, we tell you then. No quote sent on assumptions, no rebate promised that has not been confirmed.
What You Will Need On Hand
To keep the job moving once you give us the go-ahead, the accredited provider will need a short list of items from you. Nothing unusual, but worth having ready so we are not waiting on documents to start the install.
Proof you live at the property. A recent utility bill or rental agreement in your name does the job.
A photo of the existing system. We capture this at the site visit, so you do not need to do anything in advance. It confirms the unit being replaced.
Landlord approval if you are renting. The accredited provider needs written sign-off from the property owner before the rebate can be processed on a tenanted property. We can give you a template if it helps the conversation with your landlord.
Confirmation the home has the electrical capacity. We check this on the site visit. If the switchboard needs an upgrade to support the new system, it is part of our scope, not yours to organise separately.
We will let you know exactly what is needed at the quote stage so nothing is left to guess at.
Why the Upgrade Pays for Itself Twice
The rebate is the part that gets people through the door, but the system itself is where the second saving sits. The units we quote for VEU jobs are high-efficiency, which means lower running cost month to month. For a home swapping an aging gas ducted heater for a reverse cycle ducted system, the difference on the winter power bill alone usually covers a meaningful chunk of the changeover within the first few years.
You also get a more comfortable home. The new units run quieter, hold temperature more evenly across rooms, and respond faster on the cold mornings and the hot afternoons that Melbourne is known for. That is the bit you feel every day, separate from the dollars.
And on the environmental side, a more efficient system means less energy drawn from the grid and lower greenhouse emissions tied to your home. The VEU scheme exists for exactly this reason, which is why the systems on the eligible list are the ones with the higher star ratings to begin with.
Renters, Landlords, and Tenanted Properties
If the property is rented, the VEU rebate is still on the table. The scheme covers tenanted homes, but the rebate runs through the landlord or property owner because they own the asset being upgraded. What this means practically is that the conversation needs to start on their end, with written approval to proceed.
We have walked plenty of renters through this conversation with their landlords, and most are open to it once they see that the upgrade is at a meaningfully reduced cost and the system itself adds value to the property. If you are a tenant reading this and you think your home would qualify, reach out and we can give you a one-page summary you can pass to the property manager or landlord so the discussion is not starting from scratch.
For landlords, this is one of the cleanest ways to upgrade heating and cooling across a portfolio without carrying the full cost. The accredited provider handles the scheme paperwork, we handle the install across multiple properties if needed, and the tenant gets a system that runs cleaner and quieter from day one.
