Multi-head systems run two to five indoor heads off one outdoor unit and suit homes that want zone-by-zone control across several rooms without going to ducted ceilings. For first-time installs, a single split in the room you actually live in is often the right move. Living room or main bedroom, one unit, lower upfront cost than ducted, and full heating and cooling control where you need it. Add more heads later if you want them.

Multi-head systems make sense when you want zone-by-zone control across three to five rooms and ducted is not practical (no roof space, awkward layout, heritage ceilings). Each head runs independently with its own remote, so you only condition the rooms you use.

Replacements are where many splits come from. A unit dies after a long run and the existing wall mount, line set and electrical mean the new install drops in with minimal disruption. Where the old unit qualifies, the VEU rebate brings the upfront cost down before you pay rather than after.

How many rooms can one split system cover?

A single-head split system covers one room or one open-plan area. For multiple rooms with independent control you need either a multi-head split (one outdoor unit, two to five indoor heads) or ducted air conditioning (one system feeding ducts to every room). Multi-head splits suit three to five rooms where ducted is not practical because of layout, roof space or budget. For five rooms or more, ducted often becomes the better-value choice. We will give you both numbers if you want to weigh them up.

Can I get a rebate when I install a split system?

Sometimes, yes. Victoria’s VEU rebate covers eligible upgrades where you are replacing an old or inefficient heating system (typically a ducted gas heater, gas wall heater or older electric heating) with a high-efficiency reverse cycle unit. The rebate brings the upfront cost down before you pay rather than after. We handle the paperwork from the recycling certificate for the old unit through to the customer acceptance link, so you do not have to chase the rebate yourself. If your job qualifies we will let you know up front in the quote.
