When The Ducts Themselves Need Help

Sometimes the heater is fine but the ducts are not. Old ductwork loses heat through gaps and damaged insulation, sends warm air to the wrong rooms, and makes the system work harder than it should.

Ducted heating duct replacement swaps the ducts out without replacing the heater. The whole system runs better afterwards. Same heater, properly delivering the heat it produces. This is the right call when the unit is in good condition but you can feel the system has lost performance over the years.

If the heater itself is the problem, that is a different job (ducted heating unit replacement). We will tell you which one your home actually needs after an honest look at the system.

Choosing Between Heating Systems

The short version of the call most Melbourne homeowners are making:

Gas Ducted Heating: You have a working gas connection, the existing system is fine or you are replacing like for like, and you do not want to switch off gas yet. Fast, familiar, hot air through the vents. Note new gas connections are phasing out in 2027.

Electric Ducted Heating: Reverse cycle, so it cools as well as heats. The default for new builds going forward, and the standard path for gas-to-electric changeovers. The VEU rebate brings the upfront cost down on eligible jobs. Where the job qualifies, we will let you know up front and walk you through the path.

Duct Replacement: When the heater is fine but the ducts have aged out, this is the job. Often the cheaper fix versus a full system replacement.

Should I stick with gas ducted or switch to electric?

Depends on the home. If the existing gas ducted heater is recent and working well, staying on gas usually makes sense for now. If the heater is near end of life or you are renovating, electric ducted (reverse cycle) becomes the stronger play because one system handles heating and cooling and the VEU rebate brings the upfront cost down on eligible jobs. New build is electric by default with the 2027 phase-out. We will look at the system you have, the age of it, and what your home needs, and give you a straight read rather than steering you to the bigger ticket.

Do you handle the heating system selection or do we need to specify it?
